If you are searching for a Senior Programme Officer Nigeria role in climate action and sustainable development, this opportunity at the African Climate Foundation (ACF) is worth your attention. Currently, ACF is recruiting a Senior Programme Officer – Nigeria to strengthen its growing climate and development portfolio in the country.

Importantly, this role is remote within Nigeria and offers a unique chance to contribute directly to Nigeria’s energy transition, climate resilience, and inclusive development agenda. Moreover, the position sits at the intersection of strategy, partnerships, grant-making, and thought leadership.

About the African Climate Foundation (ACF)

The African Climate Foundation is the first and only African-led climate change re-granting organization on the continent. Established in 2020, ACF works at the nexus of climate change and development to drive long-term socio-economic transformation across Africa.

Through grant-making, fellowships, research, technical assistance, coalition building, and advocacy, ACF supports African-led solutions to climate challenges. Furthermore, the organization prioritizes collaboration, believing that sustainable change requires strong partnerships across government, civil society, finance, and communities.

Purpose of the Senior Programme Officer Role

As Nigeria advances toward a low-carbon and climate-resilient future, ACF continues to expand its work across key sectors. These include just energy transition, climate adaptation, sustainable land use, transport, and green industrialization.

Therefore, ACF seeks a Senior Programme Officer to work closely with the Nigeria Country Manager and programme teams. In this role, you will help drive strategic planning, manage grant portfolios, strengthen partnerships, and enhance the overall impact of ACF’s Nigeria Programme.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Programme Officer

Strategy Development and Implementation

First, you will support the revision and implementation of ACF’s Nigeria Strategy and implementation plan. In addition, you will identify sector-relevant research and analysis to guide evidence-based decision-making.

You will also collaborate with programme teams to ensure integration and cross-learning. Meanwhile, you will work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Manager to track progress and outcomes. Notably, you may lead flagship projects within the Nigeria Programme.

Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement

Equally important, you will build and maintain strong relationships with government institutions, financial institutions, civil society organizations, think tanks, and research bodies. As a result, you will strengthen collaboration and amplify programme impact.

You will also represent the Nigeria Programme externally, acting as a key point of contact for stakeholders and partners.

Grant-Making and Portfolio Management

Under the guidance of the Nigeria Country Manager, you will manage and implement the programme’s grant-making portfolio. This includes supporting the full grant cycle—from solicitation and review to contracting and monitoring.

Additionally, you will monitor grantee progress and provide technical or management support when needed. Consequently, grants will align more closely with ACF’s strategic objectives.

Fundraising and Reporting

You will also support fundraising strategies by contributing to funding proposals and donor engagements. Furthermore, you will ensure timely and high-quality reporting to donors, the ACF Board, and key stakeholders.
