Main Purpose of the Role
The Construction Specialist will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and monitoring construction and rehabilitation projects within MSF missions. In addition, the role ensures that all technical activities comply with MSF standards, protocols, and local construction regulations.
Furthermore, the specialist will support infrastructure projects across various technical fields, including architecture, construction engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, ICT, biomedical systems, and GIS.
Key Responsibilities
As a Construction Specialist at MSF, your responsibilities will include the following:
- First, define and implement technical procedures while ensuring proper maintenance and functionality of construction works.
- Additionally, manage technical support activities in close collaboration with field managers and relevant teams.
- Moreover, conduct project assessments and feasibility studies, offering alternative solutions where challenges arise.
- Where necessary, develop new protocols and oversee pilot testing to ensure operational efficiency.
- Equally important, handle administrative documentation, including installation records, repairs, and reports.
- Act as a technical reference, providing expert advice, quality control, and capacity building.
- Furthermore, train technicians and managers on the use and maintenance of new installations.
- When required, serve as a roving technical expert across MSF missions.
- Design, plan, and supervise construction and rehabilitation projects, including structural calculations where applicable.
- In addition, analyze construction plans, budgets, and resource needs, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Supervise construction progress while ensuring compliance with MSF protocols and safety standards.
- Ensure timely delivery of documentation, such as BoQs, as-built drawings, and monitoring records.
- Finally, contribute to monthly reporting, including SitReps and logistics statistics.
Requirements
Education
- Mandatory: Technical diploma or degree from a recognized technical university in a relevant field.
Experience
- Mandatory: At least two years of professional logistics or construction-related experience.
- Preferred: Previous experience with MSF or another NGO, particularly in developing countries.
