Security Assistant Job Responsibilities

Core Duties and Functions

The Security Assistant job requires a proactive and detail-oriented approach. For instance, the successful candidate will assist in maintaining security plans, evacuation drills, and emergency procedures.

Moreover, the role involves monitoring compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) and Minimum Operating Residential Security Standards (MORSS). Additionally, the Security Assistant will liaise with the Head of Security at the ECOWAS Commission to assess risks and provide recommendations.

At the same time, the role includes supervising private security guards attached to the OAG. Furthermore, the Security Assistant will coordinate armed backup and escort duties when required.

Equally important, maintaining accurate security records and conducting basic investigations are key responsibilities. Finally, the role requires liaising with host country security agencies and recommending appropriate security equipment.

Academic Qualifications and Experience

Educational Requirements

Applicants for the Security Assistant job at ECOWAS Auditor General Office must possess:

  • BTS, OND, or equivalent qualification in Social Sciences (Public Administration, Business Administration, Sociology, or related fields)
  • Training in security management or security studies is an added advantage

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with a security agency or relevant military background
  • At least 2 years’ experience assisting with security protocol management and supervising security personnel
  • Strong knowledge of public safety, security procedures, and ECOWAS security policies
  • Understanding of laws and regulations related to personnel, facility, and information security

Age Limit and ECOWAS Competencies

Applicants must be below 35 years old, except for internal candidates. Candidates are also expected to demonstrate ECOWAS core competencies, including leadership, client service orientation, multicultural sensitivity, analytical thinking, communication skills, and planning and implementation abilities.

Fluency in English, French, or Portuguese is required, while knowledge of additional ECOWAS languages is an advantage.
