The Alumni & Mentorship Officer at the Tony Elumelu Foundation will serve as the operational lead for alumni engagement and mentorship initiatives. In this role, the officer will ensure that TEF alumni remain supported after funding while benefiting from mentorship, strategic guidance, and growth opportunities.

Key Responsibilities of the Alumni & Mentorship Officer

The Alumni & Mentorship Officer job involves a combination of data management, programme execution, and stakeholder engagement.

Alumni Data Management & Impact Tracking

The officer will:

  • Maintain a centralized alumni database covering all 54 African countries
  • Track business performance metrics such as revenue growth, job creation, social impact, and funding raised
  • Assess alumni readiness for investment and capacity-building opportunities

Consequently, accurate data will guide decision-making and program improvements.

Mentorship Programme Execution

In addition to data oversight, the officer will:

  • Recruit high-quality mentors, including entrepreneurs, corporate professionals, and industry experts
  • Screen and vet mentor applications to align with TEF values and standards
  • Support effective mentor-mentee matching to ensure meaningful engagement

This ensures that mentorship experiences are impactful and aligned with alumni needs.

Alumni Engagement & Recognition

Furthermore, the role involves strengthening alumni relationships by:

  • Implementing TEF’s Alumni Engagement Strategy
  • Identifying high-impact alumni for recognition through newsletters and storytelling campaigns
  • Coordinating alumni participation in TEF events, regional meetups, and country visits

Programmes, Events & Network Integration

The Alumni & Mentorship Officer will also:

  • Plan and execute virtual and physical events, including workshops and masterclasses

  • Engage with Hub Leads across Africa through virtual check-ins and strategic reviews
  • Support Hub Lead elections, performance monitoring, and local engagement activities

Job Requirements and Qualifications

To qualify for the Alumni & Mentorship Officer role at TEF, candidates should meet the following requirements:

Required Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field
  • Master’s degree is an added advantage
  • 4–7 years of experience in programme management, alumni relations, or mentorship coordination
  • Strong understanding of African entrepreneurial ecosystems and SME development
  • Proven experience managing entrepreneurship or mentorship programmes
