2026 Wema Bank Bankers-in-Training (BIT) Programme – Sales
The 2026 Wema Bank BIT Programme (Sales) is a specialized full-time graduate development initiative designed to build the next generation of banking leaders. This structured entry-level programme equips young professionals with foundational and advanced sales skills required to succeed in relationship management and commercial banking.
Through intensive training and real-world field deployment, participants will gain deep knowledge of customer acquisition, financial products, credit analysis, and relationship management across retail, SME, commercial, and corporate banking segments.
Importantly, the programme adopts a regional training structure with sessions held across Nigeria, including Lagos and Ibadan (South-West), Abuja (North), and Port Harcourt (South-East, Mid-West, and South-South regions).
Programme Structure and Training Phases
The Wema Bank BIT Programme follows a structured three-phase career development model designed to transform graduates into high-performing Relationship Managers.
Phase 1: Classroom Training (Foundational)
Successful candidates will begin with an intensive classroom training programme covering banking operations, financial products, sales strategy, and credit analysis. This stage builds strong technical and commercial competence.
Phase 2: Shadowing and Field Immersion
After foundational training, trainees will undergo practical exposure through shadowing experienced professionals and engaging in supervised field activities. This phase strengthens real-world selling skills and customer engagement techniques.
Phase 3: Full Deployment
Upon successful completion, participants transition fully into a Relationship Manager role, where they begin handling clients independently and contributing directly to branch growth and profitability.
Post-Training Responsibilities
After classroom training, Graduate Trainees will be deployed to the field and expected to deliver measurable business results.
They will execute data-driven sales strategies to acquire new-to-bank customers while growing the branch’s deposit and loan portfolio. Additionally, they will conduct localized market research to identify untapped business opportunities and monitor competitor activities.
Trainees must consistently meet and exceed monthly sales targets through disciplined prospecting and pipeline management. They will also provide end-to-end customer support, ensuring inquiries and complaints are resolved promptly to maintain high satisfaction and retention rates.
Furthermore, they will collaborate with credit and risk teams to perform preliminary loan assessments and ensure documentation meets regulatory and internal standards. Accurate reporting of sales activities and regular performance updates to senior management are also essential responsibilities.
